Do you struggle to get your kids to eat well? Nutrition in children is a constant source of concern for parents. There are so many health concerns associated with bad nutrition, such as diabetes, obesity and the myriad of diseases and illness that come with it, poor dental health and low levels of concentration. Alex Gazzola believes there are twelve foods which make up the dirty dozen - foods to be avoided at all costs:

1. Sugary cereals

2. Fruit juice drinks

3. Chewing gum

4. Supermarket/takeaway pizza

5. French fries

6. Biscuits

7. Potato crisps

8. Processed cheese snacks

9. Processed meat 'takeaway products';and burgers

10. Cereal bars

11. Ice-cream

12. Caffeine

Have you eliminated these foods from your kids diet? Have you thought up healthier, tastier alternatives? Do you have any tips for parents who are trying to wean their own children off sugar and processed foods? What were your experiences? We'd love to read about it.

Hi all,

My girls attend daycare a few days a week. I was wondering if anyone has any easy to make (reasonably healthy) lunchbox snacks. I would like to give my girls a variety so they don't get bored not each their lunch.

At the moment I try to rotate the foods in their lunchboxes basically consist of a sandwich or salada/premium style biscuits, yoghurt, popper, fruit (I try to alternate) sometimes strawberries grapes, or banana, or tinned two fruits etc. usually a cheese stick for my youngest, for my older LCM's or a Le snak type product.

I am trying to reduce the amount of packaged food eg. the le snak/ lcm want to send something homemade in its place (to reduce cost too).

So if anyone has any easy recipes or other ideas, please let me know... I am willing to try everything.

Thanks a bunch. <img alt='' src='/Providers/HtmlEditorProviders/Fck/FCKeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/regular_smile.gif'

Saw this product advertised at Coles last week ~$3 for a bottle of cheese sauce, didn't buy it but came home and googled and came up with this site 'http://www.vegiepouroverbuzz.com.au/content/default.html'>http://www.vegiepouroverbuzz.com.au/content/default.html where you can register and try the product for free!

p.s. haven't checked the ingredients of the sauce yet to see if i'll let my 2yo eat it or not, but thought it might be good for those emergency quick meals over vegies

If you are worried about some of the jazzed up snacks targeted at children and toddlers - check outthis site 'http://www.choicefoodforkids.com.au/'>http://www.choicefoodforkids.com.au/ and it will let you compare the nutritional content of a whole array of foods. I guess bottom line homemade is best, but when you are out and about, time anemic or children have cottoned onto advertising and refuse to eat unless it comes in a shiny little packet......this site might help you to make more informed chocies.

My 3 year old daughter never seems to want to drink water. she always says she doesn't like it and then asks for juice or milk - although she will have water if there's nothing else around and she's really thirsty. she's never had soft drink so thank goodness that's not an issue.

i worry about her because i know kids only need a little juice or it's not good for them. she eats lots of fruit anyway so doesn't need it and we only allow her juice at dinner time and only half a cup at that. and she needs milk for calcium so that's ok. i suppose what i want to know is whether i should worry that she doesn't seem to me to be consuming enough liquids in the day? it's not like we can stop keeping milk in the house. do kids grow out of this?

My little one is 15 months old and though he was never a big eater, he has his bout of good and bad appetite. I was wondering if this is a normal thing for little ones? I get frustrated feeding him only for him to spit it out or turn his head away from it. I get worried that he's not eating enough for proper development. At times i dunno what to do.

Any advice would help.

TIA. :)
