YOU CAN FUNDRAISING APPEAL

The Sony Foundation together with CanTeen has launched a national fundraising campaign to raise $15 million to build youth cancer centres in Australia. The You Can appeal addresses the need for specialised youth cancer treatment centres for persons aged 15 to 25.
You can get involved by recycling old mobile phones. It estimated that there are anywhere from 15 to 20 million unwanted phones in Australian homes. The Sony Foundation has partnered with Folmah, an Irish recycling company, to swap old mobile phones for cash. For more information on the You Can campaign and how to contribute visit youcan.org.au.

BEAST QUEST TOURNAMENT
20 - 21 March
The Beast Quest book series is designed to encourage boys to read, especially those reluctant to do so. On 20 and 21 March Beast Quest Tournaments will be held in participating bookstores around Australia. Children will be able to participate in fun Beast activities such as Master of Trivia, swap their Beast Quest collector cards, win a range of prizes and have the opportunity to buy copies of the new series.

21 - 27 March
The National Playgroup Week will be held from 21 to 27 March and encourages parents with babies and children under the age of five to find out about playgroups near them, and discover what it is about. Fun events will be held in every state and territory. This year’s theme is Celebrating Playgroup – A world of connections.

BANDAGE BEAR DAY
26 March 2010
Bandage Bear will be celebrating his 21st birthday next year and with the Bandaged Bear Day Appeal running throughout the month of March there will be plenty of opportunities to get involved. This event is The Children’s Hospital at Westmead’s major annual fundraiser, with all donations going to areas of the hospital that are in need.
This year the day has a When I Grow Up theme and organisers are urging people to raise money by throwing a party or donating or buying merchandise. The 2010 mascot Bandage Bear was designed by a 12-year-old from Mascot Public School, the colourful coat will be unveiled at the start of the appeal. VAALIA YOGHURT FEEL GOOD PROGRAM - MUMMY AND ME YOGA

Now in its fifth year the Vaalia Yoghurt Feel Good Program allows you to pull out your yoga mat and participate in a series of free classes on Brisbane’s South Bank. Every Tuesday from 2 February to 23 March from 9.30 to 10.30am there will be Mummy and Me yoga classes where you can take your kids along for some relaxation. No booking is required but participants are encouraged to bring a towel or yoga mat and to wear loose, comfortable clothing.

PLATFORM THREE HIP HOP FESTIVAL
February 27, March 6, 13, 19, 20
Starting from February 27 there will be free hip hop classes at the Carriageworks on Wilson Street in Sydney. The first three weeks are a lead-up to the festival and give novices the chance to bust a move with lessons on popping, locking and breaking.
The actual festival is on March 19 to 20 and is a celebration of everything hip hop. In its third year, audiences get to see the best of Australian hip hop dance, music, art, film and theatre. This year the ABC Gardening Australia Expo kicks off in Adelaide with a new array of feature elements and areas for old hand and budding gardeners. NATIONAL FOLK FESTIVAL

The National Folk Festival is attended by more than 50,000 people annually. With gourmet food and wine, markets, music, dancing, comedy and theatre everyone is welcome. There are workshops that teach singing, dancing and how to play an instrument, or there is entertainment by street theatre and impromptu artists. There are over 200 artists, 90 markets stalls and 52 hours of entertainment.
