Threads that give you a thrill

Words Ellie Baker from My Style
8 March 2010

I’ll admit it, when I first discovered this UK-based company, I was a little jealous that this was a kids’ only range. The contemporary look Richmond JR has created demonstrates the evolution in children’s wear: kids are now there to be seen in style (forget those hand-me-downs!).

Creator John Richmond’s philosophy states that this brand is a “celebration of the energy, creativity and unpredictability of youth and street culture.” With the aim of opening 100 stores worldwide by 2011, this expanding company will be one to watch. Go to johnrichmond.com for more information.

Be queen bee!

Words Tara Prangell from My Style
5 March 2010

Take your fashion cues from celebrities such as Jessica Alba and Jennifer Garner, along with local talent Toni Pearen and Catriona Rowntree, who all dressed impeccably during their pregnancies with Queen Bee Maternity. This online boutique works much like a department store; global designer maternity labels mixed in with local finds. Queen Bee Maternity offers a huge range of undergarments and basic essentials, but it’s their range of flattering evening dresses and business attire that I adore. Check out queenbee.com.au.

Little ladies

Words Jade Thompson from My Style
3 March 2010

You might have gathered that I adore vintage-style children’s clothing and so without a doubt I was drawn to the label Olive’s Friend Pop. Creators Julia and Lea were inspired by the traditional style of their grandmothers’ generation. You can expect feminine and original designs for every little girl! Take a look at olivesfriendpop.com.

The boys are back in town

Words Ellie Baker from My Style
3 March 2010

There is only one word to describe Gabrial Saynte ¬- cool. Cool in every respect, from the website to the designers to the fashion, this brand has that “it” factor. This boys’ clothing label, draws on past and present artists such as The Doors, The Beatles and even Paris Hilton, combining their inspiration with modern culture to inspire a whole new generation.

Head straight to the website at gabrialsaynte.com. It has a contemporary design with attitude to match. The team describe themselves using a mix of witty banter and comedic reality, which immediately made me feel a certain rapport with them.

Plus, how can you not like a brand where the name of their facebook page is: “... Yeah I know, Gabe designing kids’ clothing is a little creepy.”
