Book Review by Amy Adeney

Waiting for Chicken Smith
By David Mackintosh

This is a beautiful exploration of summer holidays by the beach – finding treasures, listening for the ice cream van, swimming and surfing, walking to the lighthouse. It is also a tale of friendship, and the ups and downs of sibling relationships. The relaxed pace of the text captures the feeling of an endless summer, and the sketchy illustration style uses a colour palette reminiscent of sand, surf and sunset. This is a gorgeous book about change and memory, which will be enjoyed by readers aged 4-7.
